KING LEAR
Scenic Design by Kevin Nelson
Lighting Design by Shannon McKinney
For a production of King Lear at Colorado Shakespeare Festival, we constructed a large curved staircase faced with foam in order to create a rock texture. We also constructed two steel frames with plexiglass faces for an LED effect.

This is an image of the staircase during the initial assembly process. We needed to assemble and face the unit in the paint shop so that the rock texture could be created ahead of the load in period.

This is an image from during the initial assembly process.

This is another image of the initial assembly process. This staircase was designed to sit on a rake, so we needed to place blocks and shims under the legs in order for each step to sit squarely while not on a rake.

This is an image of the staircase after it received the rock texture.

This is an image from load in after we installed one of the large frames.

This shows the back of the staircase.
